The Mercenary and the Hissing Woods

"This was such an interesting read – the concept, the characterizations, the world-building, all of it kept my attention right from the first page. My favorite aspect of this book is how COLORFUL it is, and not just with the descriptions of the woods (which were beautiful as well as unsettling once the fog rolls in) but also with the characters. This little band of mercenaries is made up of well-developed personalities that are just unbelievably endearing. I was invested in one particular character from the start, and felt so drawn into the story because of it. Easily one of my favorite reads, and I am definitely looking forward to more from this author. They have such an incredible knack for making you care about the characters, and that more than anything really makes a book wonderful for me."
