The Truth of Who You Are

A coming of age story of resilience and hope set during the Great Depression

Ben Taylor is an obituary writer for a small-town press in Tennessee and has just learned the next obituary he writes may be his own. He recounts events of his life growing up in the shadow of the Smoky Mountains. When his family is plunged into poverty during the Great Depression Ben takes a job with the US Civilian Conservation Corps in developing the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. He joins hundreds of other young men planting thousands of trees, building bridges and roads. It is during this time that Ben causes a tragic accident which puts him in a dilemma: does he allow his best friend to take the fall so he can keep his position? Years go by and while serving in the Battle of the Bulge in World War II he’s reconnected with his old friend and makes amends.

"The Truth of Who You Are is a beautifully written saga of a young man's coming of age and journey into adulthood, as rich and stark as the Appalachian Mountains of his childhood."
