First Love

This girl was a distraction...trouble.

The first time Taylor Jane Bryant gave me a boner she held a hammer and a plank of wood. She had no idea how to nail straight and I worried she’d jam her delicate fingers trying. I might have been a tad overprotective for the third week of high school with a girl I barely knew. I’d already gotten in trouble for fighting and the last thing I needed was getting bounced from my new home. This girl… was a distraction. Trouble. All my life I’d been told I was worthless by an angry man. I’d never be good enough for her, but I could make sure no one hurt her. I’d never take it further than friendship for both our sakes but it’d kill me to let her go.

I didn’t expect him to show up for our club project. I didn’t expect him to take my plans and tell me they were crap and then design his own. I certainly didn’t want to say it was better than the original, even if it was.
Hunter Hart was cold as ice despite the smoldering looks he gave every girl, but me. No, he made me mute. He made me angry. He made me fall in love. This boy… he became my first project, my first disaster, and my first love. He was the boy they warned you about, and the one that kept you up at night wondering how to fast forward through the awkward teenage years right into adulthood. Too bad I’ve been friend-zoned.
