When Dr. Marya Volkov returns to a destroyed Earth to bury her grandmother, she never imagines that 1) all of Babushka’s old stories are true, and 2) that she’d meet quite literally the last person on the dead planet. But nothing in Babushka’s beloved willow grove makes scientific sense. From the grove’s existence to wolf witches to Kiro, the grumpy dragon shifter who steals Marya’s heart, the scientist must come to terms with the fact that magic exists, leading to a confrontation with the demon whose fading magic has kept the grove alive, even when everything else on the planet has withered and died.
