A resident of Withering Brook Estates is found dead the morning after a neighborhood dinner party.
Edward Traubshaw, a recent widower who has moved from New York to this small Texas bedroom community, reluctantly finds himself in the middle of the mess.

The police, suspecting the hostess, begin a search of her kitchen. Now it is up to Traubshaw and his sidekick – confidant Jimmy Antorres to find the killer.

Although the victim was disliked due to his bullying, strong opinions and activities on the Home Owners Association board the party guests find it hard to believe anyone would kill him. All sixteen guests were served the same food and beverages, yet none were sick.
