Death of a Steer

It wasn't supposed to end like this

My novel, Someplace North, Someplace Wild, begins when a young cowboy leaves Texas to seek his fortune in the high meadow grasslands of British Columbia’s Coast mountains.

Here’s a story to introduce you to the person who will become Cody Brandon, wilderness cowboy extraordinaire.

Cody is 14 years old. He’s long dreamed of a ranching career. But he almost loses that dream when his curiosity, imagination and impetuous nature lead him to do something really stupid.

"Someplace North, Someplace Wild stirs the soul--strenuous adventure, exasperating mystery, loving romance, vigorous conflict. Writing like an evangelical Louis L'amour, Gary Brumbelow has an uncanny ability--by engaging our senses and implanting us into the middle of the story--to lead us to evaluate our own lives. What might I have done trapped in a similar circumstance! It smacks of my favorite of Jesus' parables."
