A Pocketbook PI Origin Story

What readers are saying:

“The scenes are so vividly described, it felt like I was there with Penny. It had me second-guessing everything and I just couldn’t get enough!” ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“This book got me hooked from the first chapter. Before reading this prequel, I read the entire At All Costs series and I am glad I got to know Penny more from this book. It kinda gave me some sense of “closure” because I’ve been curious about her background. Kudos to the author for this amazing read!”⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

C’est la vie?

While sixteen-year-old Penny Pendleton’s father is on a two-year assignment in France for the State Department, she and her mother are making the most of Parisian life.

Penny’s enjoying her private music lessons and studying at a top-class International School. And the fancy dinners (courtesy of her father’s employer) and newfound European friends make the whole French experience something to write home about.

However, it isn’t long before Penny’s something’s-not-right radar is in overdrive. She can’t put her finger on it, but something about Lars Jonsson, her father’s colleague, is freaking her out.

She spots people watching the family’s apartment and taking photographs. Then someone questions the concierge about her father … her sheet music disappears … a stranger follows her … her music teacher begins acting weird … and at first, Penny thinks she’s being paranoid. But her gut instinct has never let her down before.

When she questions her father, he has no choice but to confess his secret. She’s astonished, but relieved that she can finally put all the odd pieces of this mysterious Paris puzzle together.

Is it time to return to the safety of the US and leave Paris? Will the Pendletons’ lives ever be the same again? Is Penny’s future being mapped out for her?
